Capcom has subtly teased the upcoming Resident Evil 9 in a way that's both clever and hidden in plain sight. To celebrate reaching an impressive milestone of 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by an infected horde wearing party hats, casually making their way to the church.
The video then transitions to a rock song, with Dr. Salvador amusingly strumming his chainsaw as if it were a guitar. The camera pans to show Leon fist-pumping, with a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign in the background. You can watch the full video below:

However, if you rotate the "Thank you for playing" sign, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which translates to the number 9. While this could be dismissed as a mere coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank on the sign is absent in earlier parts of the video, suggesting it was deliberately added. This has sparked speculation among fans.
One fan responded with surprise, saying, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.
Capcom has officially announced that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi shared his thoughts on the project, stating, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
