As a practical spender, I typically stick to essentials and the occasional video game on sale. However, last year marked a change when I considered purchasing a LEGO set—something I hadn't thought about since childhood. Despite my love for LEGO as a kid, I'd grown out of it, largely due to the high costs associated with these sets, especially those linked to popular franchises.
It took me quite a while to justify the purchase of the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant, which had been on sale since October of last year for under $50. I finally decided my desk needed a new potted plant, and this set fit the bill perfectly.

My interest in this set was sparked after reading IGN's review of the Piranha Plant. Being a long-time fan of Mario games, this set seemed like a perfect way to showcase my affection for the franchise. While LEGO's botanical line offers beautiful flower sets, none capture the whimsical yet intimidating charm of this Piranha Plant.

After building it, I'm thrilled to have the Piranha Plant on my desk. It brings a touch of the Mushroom Kingdom to my workspace, and the joy of building it was just as rewarding as the final product. I completed it in one afternoon, yet it was engaging enough to keep me focused throughout. This is currently my only LEGO Nintendo set, but I'm now considering adding more to my collection.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?
LEGO sets, particularly those aimed at adults, can be pricey, often exceeding $200. It's crucial to balance the joy of owning a set you love with financial responsibility. The Mario LEGO set I purchased was under $50, which felt justifiable. The hours spent building it and the daily happiness it brings me are certainly worth more than $50, but that's my personal spending limit.
