Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with the release of its monumental update 2.0 on May 13th. Since its launch in 2024, the game has struggled to achieve the level of popularity that Supercell had hoped for. With this update, the developers are aiming to revitalize the game and attract a broader audience.
This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two
Squad Busters 2.0 is more than just a minor update; it's a comprehensive overhaul that fundamentally changes the game's mechanics. The update introduces a new hero-based system where players select a Hero to lead their squad. These Heroes, drawn from existing characters, play a crucial role as the game's outcome now hinges on their survival. If your Hero is defeated, you lose the match.
Combat mechanics have also been revamped. Now, players can attack without stopping their movement, which results in more dynamic, fast-paced, and intense battles. Additionally, the victory conditions have shifted from eliminating all opponents to focusing solely on defeating the enemy Hero. This change has led some players to compare the game to a more complex version of Brawl Stars.
Squad Busters 2.0 Is Dumping a Lot of Old Features
To make room for the new gameplay elements, several existing modes such as Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder are being removed. Alongside these, some older skins and progression systems will also be phased out. Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items.

The rapid implementation of these changes underscores Supercell's urgency to boost the game's appeal. Squad Busters has yet to reach the same level of success as other Supercell titles like Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars.
As the game approaches its first anniversary on May 29th, Supercell is rolling out a series of daily piñata events to celebrate. These events will offer players the chance to unlock a new Hero, Mortis, among other rewards.
You can download Squad Busters 2.0 from the Google Play Store and experience the revamped gameplay for yourself.
