Application Description

Transform your device into a versatile portable display for your Camera, Gaming Console, Laptop, PC, or any device with HDMI output using an HDMI to USB C dongle, also known as a UVC capture device or Video Capture Card. This is not to be confused with a USB C hub or a USB C to HDMI cable. Devices like Cameras, Endoscopes, and Microscopes with USB streaming capabilities are also supported. Noir enhances your viewing experience by supporting UVC video streaming and UAC audio streaming, with options for OpenGL ES or Vulkan as the graphics backend. The free version of Noir provides essential functions and an immersive experience, though it includes ads outside of the preview. For enhanced features and to support the ongoing development and maintenance of Noir, consider upgrading to the Pro version.

FAQ

  1. Why doesn't Noir recognize my device?

Your device might not support USB Host (OTG), or the connected device may not be a Video Capture Card. Additionally, some devices may require a USB hub for additional power supply.

  2. Why is the preview so laggy?

Lag can often be attributed to the USB version. Ensure compatibility by using a USB 3.0 capture card with a USB 3.0 cable and port. For USB 2.0, limit the video format to MJPEG at 1080p30fps or lower, though some cards support up to 1080p50fps.

  3. Why did my capture card, which was working fine, suddenly fail to connect?

This issue is typically due to system glitches. Restarting your phone or tablet usually resolves the problem.

  4. Why does my gaming console or Video playback device show a black screen when connected?

This is common with PS5 and PS4 due to HDCP being enabled. Disable HDCP in your PS settings: Settings -> System -> HDMI -> Enable HDCP (turn off). PS3 does not allow this. Some devices auto-enable HDCP for video content, causing black screens. While HDMI splitters can bypass HDCP, this is not advised here; explore other options independently.

  5. Why are resolutions other than 16:9 and 4:3 not supported?

Current capture cards generally do not support other aspect ratios. You can adjust to different ratios using Noir's Stretch feature, provided your capture card's EDID supports it and your laptop or PC is set to the correct output resolution.
