Rummy 500 (also called Persian Rummy, Pinochle Rummy, or 500 Rum) is a classic variation of Rummy. While similar to standard Rummy, it stands out by allowing players to pick up multiple cards from the discard pile—not just the top card.
Under standard Rummy 500 rules, players earn points for melded card combinations while losing points for unmeldable cards ("deadwood") remaining in hand when someone goes out.
Game Rules:
• Designed for 2-4 players
• Requires one deck including jokers
• Each player receives 7 cards
• Win by being first to reach 500 points
• If multiple players hit the target, only the highest scorer claims victory
• Create melds: sets (3-4 cards of matching rank) or sequences (3+ consecutive same-suit cards)—these determine scoring
• Turns involve drawing a card to start and discarding to finish
• Optionally, meld new combinations or extend existing ones ("building") during your turn
• Jokers act as wild cards in sets/sequences
• Discard pile picks require using the most recently discarded card
• Cards taken from discards must immediately form melds
• Face cards = 10 points. Aces = 11 (when melded) or 15 penalty points. Jokers adopt substituted card values plus 15 penalty points
• Games consist of multiple scoring rounds
• Cumulative scores determine victory when surpassing 500 points
• Tiebreakers trigger playoff rounds for final determination
