Application Description

Control your device with switches or the front camera, enhancing your interaction with your phone or tablet. Using switches, you can select items, scroll through content, enter text, and perform various other actions with ease. Switch Access is particularly beneficial if you're unable to interact directly with your device's touchscreen.

To begin using Switch Access:

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Accessibility > Switch Access.

Set up a switch

Switch Access scans your screen, highlighting each item until you make your selection. You can choose from different types of switches:

  • Physical switches: These include USB or Bluetooth devices like buttons or keyboards, as well as on-device switches such as volume buttons.
  • Camera switches: Use facial gestures like opening your mouth, smiling, raising your eyebrows, or looking left, right, or up to control your device.

Scan your device

Once you've set up a switch, you can interact with screen elements using various scanning methods:

  • Linear scanning: Moves through items sequentially.
  • Row-column scanning: Scans rows first, then items within the selected row.
  • Point scanning: Uses moving lines to pinpoint a specific location on the screen, followed by a "Select" action.
  • Group selection: Assigns switches to different color groups. Press the switch corresponding to the color around the item you want to select, narrowing down your choice through successive groups.

Use the menus

Upon selecting an element, a menu will appear, offering options like select, scroll, copy, paste, and more. Additionally, a top-of-screen menu aids in navigation, allowing you to access notifications, return to the home screen, adjust volume, and perform other tasks.

Navigate with Camera Switches

Leverage Camera Switches to navigate your phone using facial gestures. This feature allows you to browse or select apps through your device's front camera. You can customize the sensitivity and duration of each gesture to suit your needs.

Record shortcuts

You can record touch gestures like pinching, zooming, scrolling, swiping, or double tapping and assign them to a switch or initiate them from a menu. This functionality enables you to perform frequent or complex actions with a single switch, such as turning two pages of an ebook with a recorded swipe gesture.

Permissions Notice

  • Accessibility Service: As an accessibility service, this app can observe your actions, retrieve window content, and monitor text input.

By utilizing Switch Access, you can significantly enhance your device's usability and tailor it to your specific needs.
