In the material world, your body lingers between life and death, your heart still beating—yet your spirit has been inexplicably drawn into the terrifying Afterlife. Oppression and injustice suffocate this shadowy realm under Death's total dominion. At the lowest rung of society are the Penitents: unfortunate souls indebted to Death, warped by his magic into unnerving animal-human hybrids. Above them reside the Elect: those favored by Death, enjoying lives of freedom, privilege, and luxury.

But the Afterlife is now succumbing to a deeper, more mysterious corruption. Performers have vanished from the opulent entertainment center; a sanctuary for both Penitents and Elect faces relentless attacks; and a baffling illness spreads rapidly across the land.

This escalating crisis poses an even graver danger—yet also presents a unique opportunity. Deep within the Afterlife lies the Clockwork Hall: home to Death's Court and the vault where souls are stored. If you can navigate the turmoil to reach it, you can strike a blow to end Death's tyranny, fight your way back to the living world, or even seize the Afterlife's throne for yourself!
