The Hang, a captivating instrument from the idiophone class, was ingeniously crafted in Switzerland. It boasts a unique construction, featuring two half-shells of deep-drawn, nitrided steel sheets that are meticulously glued together at the rim. This design leaves the interior hollow and results in its iconic 'UFO shape'. On the top, known as the "Ding" side, you'll find a central 'note' hammered into place, surrounded by seven or eight 'tone fields' that have been carefully hammered to produce different sounds. The bottom, referred to as the "Gu" side, is a smooth surface with a rolled hole at its center. Striking the rim of the Gu produces a tuned note, adding to the instrument's versatility. Notably, the Hang is also known as the handpan.

The Hang operates on similar physical principles as the steelpan, but with a crucial modification that allows it to function as a Helmholtz resonator. This innovation came about after years of dedicated research into the steelpan and other musical instruments, showcasing the creators' commitment to expanding the horizons of sound.
