Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata
Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife like moose and boar, found in specific map areas (ruined cities and forests). These animals are identifiable on the mini-map by their white icons (unlike machines' black icons). They tend to avoid players and robots. Their aggression depends on the player's level relative to theirs; higher-level animals may attack even without provocation. Wildlife boasts significant health, making early-game encounters challenging.
Animal Bait can lure wildlife, simplifying hunts. Wildlife respawns similarly to machines:
- Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
- Traveling a sufficient distance triggers respawns in previously visited areas.
- Story progression can also trigger respawns.
There's no dedicated Beast Hide farm. Consistent hunting while exploring forest and city ruin areas usually yields sufficient hides. The drop rate is relatively high, so stockpiling excessive hides isn't typically necessary. Focus on acquiring hides as needed for weapon upgrades.
