Sony Removes GTA 6 Parody 'Grand Taking Ages' from PS Store, Now Available on Steam

The team behind the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody game, Grand Taking Ages, has re-emerged with a new Steam page following its removal from the PlayStation Store by Sony.

Grand Taking Ages is a parody management simulator where players manage a game development studio, according to its creators. Last month, the game, initially titled Grand Taking Ages VI, appeared on the PlayStation Store with a May 2025 release date, despite using AI-generated art and listing improbable gameplay features and fake awards. Users could even wishlist the game on PlayStation. However, Sony eventually removed it from the store.

Now, after making key adjustments, the game has been approved for release on Steam. Developer Violarte told IGN that Grand Taking Ages underwent a "thorough" review process and is now ready for publishing on Steam. The game's Steam page features a new trailer and updated screenshots, emphasizing its parody nature.

To differentiate Grand Taking Ages from GTA 6, Violarte made several changes, including removing the "VI" from the title, updating the logo, descriptions, and overall presentation. While the game still uses generative AI, particularly for voice overs in its trailer, Violarte disclosed this on the Steam page in line with Steam's AI rules.

Here’s the updated description on the Grand Taking Ages Steam page:

Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of "creative" deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!

Violarte engaged with Valve differently compared to Sony, discussing the game's concept before official submission to ensure alignment with Steam's guidelines. The developer cited other parody projects, like Grand Theft Hamlet, to argue that parodies of GTA should be protected from takedowns.

Violarte is now working to get Grand Taking Ages back on the PlayStation Store, believing that the recent updates make it ready for relisting. They have reached out to Sony, highlighting the changes that convinced Valve to approve the game for Steam release. "We strongly believe that there will be no issues with Sony this time, given the adjustments we've implemented," Violarte stated.

The incident with Grand Taking Ages VI on the PlayStation Store raised questions about Sony's curation process, while Valve's more open policy on Steam is well-known. Many digital storefronts, including Steam, app stores, and the Nintendo eShop, feature a variety of games, with an increasing use of generative AI.

Meanwhile, GTA 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in the fall of 2025.
