Lords of the Fallen publisher CI Games has unveiled and rolled out a surprise final update for its 2023 title—just hours before its sequel takes center stage at tonight’s Game Awards.
Today’s Version 2.5 release marks the end of a long road for this action RPG, which debuted to mixed reactions but has steadily won back players through a string of substantial post-launch patches.
The previous major 2.0 update was once thought to be the last—and so was the 1.5 update before it. Yet, responding to continued fan feedback, CI Games has crafted one final patch that overhauls enemy and boss behavior while introducing a new Veteran Mode for those seeking the ultimate challenge.
“We’ve always prided ourselves on being a players-first studio, and we truly mean it,” said CI Games’ creative strategist Ryan Hill to IGN today. “Version 2.0 in April was a major milestone, but we weren’t done... It became clear players wanted deeper, more aggressive encounters from enemies and bosses, so we went back and refined those systems.
“Version 2.5 delivers major improvements to Legacy Mode—new behaviors, fresh movesets, and heightened aggression—and introduces an all-new difficulty: Veteran Mode, designed for players hungry for the toughest test. We’re proud to offer this final major update free to everyone as a heartfelt thank-you for your support, and as a glimpse of what’s coming in Lords of the Fallen II next year.”
Classic bosses now feature reimagined behaviors, with even harder variants tailored for Veteran Mode. Alongside these tougher challenges come new rewards, including exclusive boss attack animations and a rare breastplate for those who conquer Veteran Mode.
CI Games previously teased “big news” about Lords of the Fallen II for tonight’s Game Awards 2025. Stay tuned, as IGN will cover all the reveals as they unfold.
