"Oblivion Remastered's 'Spookmane' Ghost Horse Discovery Triggers Community Hunt"

Authore: PeytonUpdate:May 20,2025

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is brimming with eerie elements—skeletons, spirits, and zombies abound. Yet, one mysterious entity, a 'ghost horse,' has captured the attention of the community, as it's absent from both the original 2006 release and the 2025 remaster.

The intrigue began with a Reddit post by user TaricIsNotASupport, who stumbled upon what appears to be a spectral horse during their adventures in the game.

Uhhhh, guys, is this new?

"So I was crafting stupid spells in Frostcrag Spire, as it's possibly my favorite way to have fun in this game," TaricIsNotASupport explained. "However, this time when I left the Cosy Chaos Spire, which has divided this community so much, I noticed something suuuuuuper strange in the distance."

Driven by curiosity, TaricIsNotASupport rushed over to investigate and discovered a spectral horse without a name. Despite having logged thousands of hours in the original Oblivion and over a hundred in the remaster, this was a first for them. They reached out to the community for insights, sparking a digital ghost hunt. Players scoured the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages website, but found no mention of a spectral mount in the original game.

To the people asking if I can ride or interact with the spooky horse, yes! 1/2

Could this be a mod? TaricIsNotASupport clarified they were playing on a PlayStation 5, where mods are not available. They even shared a video clip of their character riding the ethereal steed, which functions just like any other horse in the game, capable of fast travel and stabling. "By all accounts, it's now my steed!" they exclaimed.

Speculation abounds that this ghost horse might be the result of a glitch, possibly triggered by a misfired spell. Bethesda games are notorious for their bugs, and this could be another quirky addition to that list.

"Very weird, the wiki says there's only 2 unique horses, Shadowmere and unicorns," commented ClaymoreBeatz. "And there's no horse mods that I can see that do this, so I highly doubt you're lying about not being on PC. This is probably some sort of glitch that the new Remastered has or a glitched magical effect. Armored horses' names change to 'Armored horse,' I think, so maybe it's an Armored horse that got hit by a spell, and now its name and spell effect are glitched."

I was asked if Spookmane* can be buffed and if it stays spectral; the answer is yes!

Some fans wonder if Bethesda and Virtuos, the developers behind the remaster, might have hidden this ghost horse as a spooky Easter egg for players to discover. While this seems less likely, it's an intriguing thought that opens up possibilities of other hidden secrets within the remaster.

Many players are eager to replicate the phenomenon to have their own ghost horse. However, TaricIsNotASupport has not identified any specific method to spawn the steed, leaving the community to continue their search.

In the absence of an official in-game name, TaricIsNotASupport has dubbed their ghostly companion 'Spookmane,' a fitting moniker. They have pledged to continue their journey with Spookmane by their side, whether it's a one-off glitch, a secret, or a bug. Either way, Spookmane has captured the imagination and affection of the Oblivion community.

"This creature might be my favorite new friend I've made," TaricIsNotASupport said. "Spookmane, you're glorious, and I love you."
