Coppola’s 'Megalopolis' Spawns Graphic Novel

Authore: SadieUpdate:Jan 14,2026

Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis emerged as 2024's most polarizing cinematic event. This audacious, unconventional - and to some viewers, bewildering - epic became an instant conversation piece following its Cannes Film Festival premiere, sparking heated debate throughout the year. Now the visionary filmmaker is reimagining his controversial masterpiece in graphic novel form.

Titled Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel, the adaptation will hit shelves this October through Abrams ComicArts. The project brings together acclaimed writer Chris Ryall (known for adapting Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, and Clive Barker works) with illustrator Jacob Phillips (Newburn, That Texas Blood) for this reinterpretation.

"I wanted this graphic novel to soar with its own creative wings," Coppola explained. "Rather than simply mirroring the film, I entrusted Chris Ryall and his team to craft something that stands as the film's artistic sibling - sharing DNA but pursuing its own imaginative journey. This collaboration proves true art refuses confinement, offering audiences new parallel expressions of the same creative vision."

The story follows an idealistic architect (Adam Driver) determined to construct a futuristic utopia, clashing with a cynical mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) intent on preserving the stagnant status quo of New Rome. This modern Roman fable blends political drama with philosophical exploration of civilization's potential.

While the film remains unavailable on streaming platforms, viewers can currently rent or purchase digital copies through major platforms. The graphic novel release offers fans an alternative portal into Coppola's ambitious vision.
