Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the upcoming kart racer from Sega and Sonic Team, promises the largest roster in series history. A recent PlayStation.blog post detailed exciting new features and mechanics, ahead of the upcoming closed network test.
A Massive Cast of Characters
The game boasts an impressive lineup of iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes. While the initial trailer focused primarily on Sonic characters, the official website mentions 23 racers at launch, with more to come. Confirmed characters include Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, the Riders team (Jet, Wave, Storm), the Deadly Six (Zavok, Zazz), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega), Dr. Eggman, Egg Pawn, Metal Sonic, and the Chaotix (Vector, Charmy, Espio). Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big round out the currently revealed roster.
CrossWorlds: Dynamic Racing Environments
Prepare for a revolutionary racing experience! Travel Rings transport racers between diverse CrossWorlds in real-time, transforming the race with new scenery and unexpected challenges. Each CrossWorld offers a unique theme park-like environment filled with obstacles, giant monsters, and stunning visuals. Expect dynamic tracks, inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, that change throughout each lap, demanding adaptability and strategic racing. The game features 24 main tracks and 15 CrossWorlds.
Customization, Gadgets, and Extreme Gear Return!
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers unparalleled vehicle customization. Recent social media posts showcased extensive options, including customizable body parts, wheels, colors, tire designs, cockpit styles, and glow effects. Players can also equip their racers with 23 different gadgets to fine-tune their racing strategy. The highly anticipated Extreme Gear hoverboards from Sonic Riders make a triumphant return, adding a boost-based racing element. Sonic Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka calls this "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
Closed Network Test: Get Involved!
A closed network test is scheduled for PlayStation 5, giving fans an early look at the game. Registration is open from February 12th to 19th, 2025. The test runs worldwide from February 21st to 24th, 2025.
