Tichu is a dynamic shedding game that combines elements from Bridge, Daihinmin, and Poker. Played in teams of two with partners sitting opposite each other, this strategic game challenges players to work together to score points and gain control.
Gameplay Overview
Teams compete over multiple hands, aiming to be the first to reach a predetermined score. The game uses a 56-card deck featuring four suits - Jade, Swords, Pagodas, and Stars - with card values ranging from 2 through Ace, plus four special cards: Dragon, Phoenix, Hound, and Mah Jong.
Key Game Phases
Initial Dealing: Each player receives eight cards and may declare "Grand Tichu" - a bold 200-point prediction of being first to play all cards. After six more cards are dealt (totaling 14 per player), players can call the lesser "Tichu" bet worth 100 points.
Card Exchange: Players strategically pass one face-down card to each opponent and partner, receiving three cards in return, setting the stage for team coordination.
Trick Play: The Mah Jong holder leads first, playing valid combinations which others must beat or pass. Special "Bomb" combinations can override normal play rules.
Scoring & Winning
The round concludes when both team members play all cards. The first team to reach the target score wins the game.
