MAME4droid (0.37b5)

MAME4droid, a remarkable Android adaptation of iMAME4all, originally crafted for jailbroken iPhones and iPads, is the brainchild of David Valdeita (Seleuco). This emulator is a port of MAME 0.37b5, initially developed by Nicola Salmoria and his team, and draws inspiration from GP2X, WIZ MAME4ALL 2.5 by Franxis. MAME4droid extends its capabilities beyond the original MAME 0.37b5, supporting an impressive library of over 2000 different romsets, including additional games from later MAME versions.

It's important to understand that with such a vast array of games, performance can vary significantly. Some titles may run smoothly, while others might not be compatible with MAME4droid at all. Therefore, it's crucial to manage expectations, especially if you're using an older device. To optimize performance, consider using lower quality sound or turning it off entirely, opting for 8-bit depth, underclocking the CPU and Sound CPUs, and disabling animations for stick and buttons as well as smooth scaling.

To get started, simply install the app and place your MAME-titled zipped roms in the /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/roms folder. MAME4droid is specifically designed to work with MAME4droid & iMAME4all romsets, utilizing '0.37b5' and 'GP2X, WIZ 0.37b11 mame romset'. If you're transitioning from other MAME versions, use the "clrmame.dat" file found in /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/ to convert your romsets to the compatible format with ClrMAME Pro, which you can find at this URL.

Note that MAME4droid will not support "save states" as it's based on a MAME version without this feature. What's New in the Latest Version 1.5.3

Last updated on Jul 9, 2015, version 1.5.3 includes some fixes. Version 1.5.2 introduced a new battery save option (hacks), fixed some dialog issues, and improved support for Ice Cream Sandwich. Version 1.5.1 addressed dpad/coin button responsiveness in portrait mode and fixed issues with tilted games using GL video render. Version 1.5 added a new customizable button layout control for landscape mode and introduced tilt sensor functionality for left/right movement. Version 1.4 brought local multiplayer support using an external IME app as a Wiimote Controller or equivalent, along with an option to change the default rom path.
