BG3 Patch 8 Is So Big, It Needs To Be Stress Tested

Larian Studios has initiated a stress test for Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8, a significant update requiring thorough pre-release evaluation. This article details the stress test, its purpose, and key features of Patch 8.

Stress Test Access Limited

An update to the Patch 8 stress test build addresses various bugs, crashes, and scripting errors. It also ensures Gale's interaction with magical items functions correctly. Access is restricted to selected testers; the general public must await the official patch release.

Improvements include preserving container contents upon destruction, enhanced Steam Deck Photo Mode screenshot functionality, more responsive character poses, improved cross-play, adjusted Booming Blade tooltip values, and several crash fixes. Consult the official Baldur's Gate 3 website for a complete list of changes.

Patch 8, anticipated as one of Larian's final major updates for Faerûn, introduces extensive content. This includes cross-platform play, over twelve new subclasses (e.g., Death Domain Cleric, Path of Giants Barbarian, Arcane Archer Fighter), and the highly anticipated Photo Mode.

Highly Customizable Photo Mode

A sneak peek video showcases the extensive capabilities of the new Photo Mode. Larian aims to provide players with optimal Photo Mode functionality from the outset.

Photo Mode is accessible during exploration, combat, and (for the host) in multiplayer. Players can customize character poses, include or exclude party members, and even add extra elements (like a frog!). A free-moving camera allows for precise framing.

Post-processing effects, stickers, and frames further enhance image customization. Note that pose manipulation is restricted during dialogues and cutscenes; only post-processing effects are available then.

This preview is just the beginning; Larian plans to release further tutorials to inspire player creativity.
