The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has finally introduced a feature long requested by its fans: the ability to add subclasses to the game. Over 3000 Combinations of Skill Lines

As The Elder Scrolls Online celebrates its 10th Anniversary, developer Zenimax Online Studios unveiled a host of new features during the ESO Direct 2025 on April 10. One of the most anticipated announcements was the introduction of subclassing, a feature fans have been clamoring for years.

The frustration of having to start over each time a new skill tree was added to the game will soon be a thing of the past. With the upcoming subclass system, players can now mix and match skill lines without the need to reroll their characters.

To unlock this feature, players must reach level 50. Upon reaching this milestone, they will retain one skill line from their base class and have the flexibility to swap out two others for any from the six available classes. This system offers an astonishing 3000 combinations, allowing players to craft their perfect playstyle.

ESO Game Director Rich Lambert expressed confidence in this new feature, stating that despite potential increases in Power Levels, the team's extensive testing ensures balance and satisfaction for players.

Seasons of the Worm Cult

ZeniMax Online is also shifting to a seasonal content model, as announced by Studio Director Matt Firor. This approach aims to foster experimentation and better address player feedback.

Firor shared, "We want to keep telling great stories, but also mix in new ideas and gameplay systems, and that's exactly what we're going to do, but we'll do this in a different cadence, one that allows us, the developers, to broaden our focus and increase variety."

The new chapter, Seasons of the Worm Cult, serves as a sequel to the game’s original Molag Bal storyline, set 10 years after its inception. Players will explore the Isle of Solstice, a new zone where they will investigate the resurgence of the Worm Cult.

Producer Susan Kath noted that while the Seasons of the Worm Cult will span most of the year, future seasons are planned to last between 3 to 6 months. Zenimax also plans to introduce "remix" seasons, revisiting past storylines, with a teased Dark Brotherhood-themed season on the horizon.
