Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike with a Twist

The upcoming indie roguelike, Rogue Loops, is generating buzz for its striking resemblance to Hades, both visually and in its core gameplay loop. However, Rogue Loops introduces a unique mechanic that sets it apart. While a release date hasn't been officially announced, a free Steam demo offers a sneak peek at this intriguing title, expected to launch on PC in early 2025.

The roguelike genre's recent surge in popularity has seen a wave of new games, ranging from action-packed titles like Returnal to more traditional dungeon crawlers reminiscent of Hades and its sequel (currently in early access). Rogue Loops firmly falls into the latter category, presenting a repeating dungeon with randomly generated loot and ability upgrades, all viewed from a top-down perspective.

While comparisons to Hades are inevitable given its Steam trailer and demo, Rogue Loops distinguishes itself through a compelling twist: ability upgrades come with significant downsides. These downsides, akin to Hades' Chaos Gates (but potentially more impactful and lasting throughout the entire run), add a layer of strategic depth and unpredictability.

The game's narrative centers around a family trapped in a deadly time loop. Players must navigate five distinct dungeon floors, each teeming with unique enemies and bosses. Classic roguelike elements are present, with procedurally generated upgrades enabling players to craft diverse builds, strategically balancing buffs and debuffs.

Although a precise release date remains unconfirmed, the Steam page indicates a Q1 2025 launch. Until then, players can explore the first floor via the free demo. Other excellent roguelikes, such as Dead Cells and Hades 2, provide ample entertainment in the meantime.
