Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. It wields the lightning element, rendering it immune to lightning-based attacks. However, it's particularly vulnerable to water and ice. For maximum damage, target its head, which has a 4-star weakness. Alternatively, aim for the wings, with a 3-star weakness. Avoid attacking its torso and legs, as they are well-protected. Status ailments like Poison, Sleep, and Exhaust can be effective, but Stun and Paralysis won't work due to its lightning affinity.
Use a Flash Pod
A strategic way to quickly subdue Rey Dau is by using a Flash Pod. This tool temporarily stuns the monster, providing an opportunity to land precise hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, aim for its horns, which will be glowing bright red in Focus Mode, to inflict significant damage.
Wear Element-Resistant Gear
Surviving the battle can be tough, so equip gear that enhances your resistance to elements. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, reduces damage and provides resistance against Lightning and Fire. Consider consuming meals that boost your elemental resistance as well. If dodging is a challenge, position yourself close to Rey Dau's legs, where it's less likely to hit you.
Pay Attention to the Environment
Rey Dau frequently changes locations during the fight. In the open plains, utilize Vine Traps on the lone tree to momentarily stun the monster. Be cautious when it returns to its nest, as it can unleash a follow-up lightning attack that can stun you. Avoid rushing in this area to prevent a fatal zap.

How to Capture Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds

Instead of fighting Rey Dau to the death, you can capture it for rewards. Reduce its health until it's nearly dead, indicated by a skull icon near its mini-map icon. Use a Pitfall Trap for capturing, as Shock Traps won't work on this lightning dragon. Follow up with a Tranquilizer to ensure the capture, acting swiftly as you have only a few seconds to do so.
