Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen, adding a new layer of interactivity to the console experience. Since the exciting reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, the gaming community has buzzed with speculation about the capabilities of the new Joy-Con's mouse controls. Last month, Nintendo provided official confirmation that these Joy-Con can indeed operate in "mouse mode," allowing users to glide the controllers across a surface and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. Moreover, it's possible to use two Joy-Con simultaneously in mouse mode, with one in each hand, or pair one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode for versatile gameplay.

Further details have now emerged, thanks to a demonstration on the Nintendo Today app, which was shared on X/Twitter. This showcase revealed that the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls extend to navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2.

According to Nintendo, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." The setup involves setting the Joy-Con 2 on a flat surface such as a table and moving it accordingly to navigate. Nintendo further explained, "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," and that "you can use mouse controls on the Home menu and in compatible software." To revert to thumbstick control, simply reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

While the full extent of game compatibility remains to be seen, Nintendo has demonstrated the mouse control technology working seamlessly with Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the unique wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
