Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet

No Plans For Competitive Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

Currently, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to become part of Pokémon’s competitive circuit. Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, shared in a VGC interview on February 25, 2025, that while they are always evaluating potential additions to the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate horizon.

In a light-hearted moment, Brown mentioned, "Pokémon Sleep is out there too," referencing the company's April Fool’s parody trailer for the Pokémon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he emphasized, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, though we’re always keeping an eye on new opportunities."

Too Early And Unbalanced

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

While The Pokémon Company hasn't officially stated the reasons for keeping Pokémon TCG Pocket out of the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, with only two sets released in its first four months.

Although the app includes competitive features from the start, players have voiced concerns about ongoing balancing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket is designed as a more simplified and beginner-friendly version of the original card game, which may not align with the intense, competitive atmosphere of the established circuit.

Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to thrive, offering events for Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These will all be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
