The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is an outstanding choice for both your gaming PC and PlayStation 5 console. It surpasses Sony's minimum speed recommendation for the PS5 with impressive sequential read speeds of up to 7,250MB/s and write speeds of up to 6,300MB/s. While it's faster than the non-Pro version of the 990 Evo, it doesn't quite reach the speeds of the 990 Pro. The key difference between the 990 Evo Plus and the more expensive 990 Pro is that the 990 Evo Plus is a DRAM-less drive. However, for PS5 performance, this makes no difference. In gaming PCs, the 990 Evo Plus supports HMB (host memory buffer), which compensates for the lack of DRAM by utilizing a small amount of your system's RAM. Gamers will not notice any difference in performance.
The Samsung 990 Evo Plus does not come with a preinstalled heatsink. However, its newer, single-sided design is power-efficient and generates less heat than older SSDs. This means you likely won't need a heatsink, and it should work flawlessly in your PS5 without any thermal throttling.
