"Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Still in Development, Developer Confirms"

Authore: NicholasUpdate:May 17,2025

Saber Interactive has reassured fans that all of its previously announced games are still in active development, despite the lack of updates on high-profile projects like the eagerly anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake. In the wake of announcing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, Saber's Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, took to social media to affirm the studio's commitment to its projects.

"Saber Interactive stands as one of the largest independent developers globally," Willits stated. "Our team is diligently working on a diverse array of games across multiple genres. Rest assured, everything we've previously announced remains in development. We will provide updates on our upcoming titles as soon as we have exciting news to share."

The most pressing topic in Willits' statement is undoubtedly the KOTOR remake, a project that has been shrouded in mystery since its announcement in 2021. The remake has seen numerous transitions, including a change in development teams and apparent pauses and restarts. Despite these challenges, after four years, the project has yet to come to fruition.

In April 2024, Saber Interactive's CEO, Matthew Karch, confirmed that the KOTOR project was part of the assets taken during their split from Embracer Group, and that the game was still actively being developed. "It's clear and it's obvious that we're working on this," Karch emphasized at the time. "It's been widely reported. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we're dedicated to surpassing consumer expectations."

Willits' recent statement, almost a year after Karch's remarks, reaffirms the commitment to the KOTOR remake. However, to date, the only glimpse we've had of this project remains the initial announcement video.

In addition to the KOTOR remake, Saber Interactive has a robust lineup of other games in the pipeline. Titles such as John Carpenter's Toxic Commando and Jurassic Park Survival are slated for release in 2025, though specific dates have yet to be announced. The studio is also developing a new Turok game and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender project.

With the recent announcement of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, Saber Interactive continues to expand its portfolio. For more insights, be sure to check out IGN's article discussing the potential chapters and enemy factions that could appear in Space Marine 3.
