Joseph Kosinski is reportedly set to direct a new Miami Vice movie for Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Nightcrawler writer-director Dan Gilroy is on board to pen the script, building upon an initial draft by Top Gun: Maverick screenwriter Eric Warren Singer. Gilroy has recently been engaged in writing multiple episodes of the acclaimed Star Wars series Andor, which was created by his brother, Tony.

Miami Vice, a groundbreaking NBC police series created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann, aired for five seasons from 1984 to 1989. The show, starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as Miami detectives Crockett and Tubbs, is celebrated for its innovative approach to television aesthetics, sound, and storytelling.

The series was previously adapted into a film in 2006 by Michael Mann, known for films like Heat and Collateral, with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell in the lead roles.

PlayDetails on the new project are sparse at this point, but it's clear that Miami Vice won't be the next film Kosinski directs after his upcoming release, F1, set for June.

This timeline provides Kosinski ample opportunity to delve into the world of Miami Vice and ensure the project captures the essence of the iconic series.
