Palace - Free Classic Card Game (AKA Shed, Karma or "OG")

Back in the 90's, Palace—often referred to as Shed, Karma, or "OG"—was the go-to card game during study hall and lunch breaks at my high school. According to Wikipedia, it's also a favorite among backpackers, contributing to its global popularity.

** New features added based on user requests: [ttpp]pickup pile any time[yyxx] and [ttpp]7 forces lower[yyxx].

Challenge yourself by playing against eight unique AI opponents, each with distinct strategies, or test your skills in live matches with friends.

Basic Rules of Palace

At the start of the game, each player receives three face-down cards that cannot be viewed or changed until the end of the round. On top of these, three face-up cards are placed. Each player is then dealt three cards to form their hand. You may choose to swap cards between your hand and your face-up cards at any time during your turn.

The player holding the lowest card—typically a 3—or the next available lowest card, starts the game.

During your turn, you must play one or more cards that are equal to or higher than the card currently on top of the discard pile. If you play two or more cards, they must be of the same rank. After discarding, draw from the deck to maintain at least three cards in your hand unless the deck is empty or you already have enough cards.

Special rules apply:

  • 2's act as wild cards that reset the pile.
  • 10's clear the pile entirely.
  • Four of a kind also clears the pile.

If you can't match or beat the top card and don’t have a wild card, you must pick up the entire pile.

Once your hand is empty and the deck is exhausted, you continue by playing your face-up cards. When those are gone, flip over and play your face-down cards.

The first player to discard all their cards wins the round.

Palace is also commonly known as Shed, Karma, or "OG", depending on where you learned to play.
