Euchre uses a deck of 24 standard cards. Two teams of two players compete against each other.

When a player names the trump suit, they declare that their team aims to win most tricks in the hand. The team scores one point for three or four tricks, and two points for winning all five tricks. If the team fails to win three tricks, they are "euchred," and the opposing team receives two points.

A player with a strong hand can choose to "go alone." In this case, the partner sits out, and the caller attempts to win all tricks single-handedly. Winning all five tricks alone scores four points. Winning three or four tricks alone scores one point. If euchred while playing alone, the opposing team still scores two points.

A key rule in Euchre is that you are never forced to play a trump card unless it's the led suit. However, you must follow suit if you can.
