Crystal Dynamics licencie du personnel après l'annulation de Perfect Dark

Crystal Dynamics a licencié un nombre non précisé d'employés suite à la décision de Microsoft d'annuler le projet Perfect Dark.

Le studio a confirmé ces licenciements dans un communiqué LinkedIn, sans préciser l'ampleur exacte de la réduction d'effectifs.

« Aujourd'hui, nous avons dû faire le choix extrêmement difficile de dire au revoir à un groupe de nos collaborateurs qualifiés en raison de changements dans notre environnement professionnel », explique le communiqué. « Nous n'avons pas pris cette décision à la légère. C'était une mesure nécessaire pour assurer la durabilité à long terme du studio et nous concentrer sur nos objectifs créatifs principaux dans un paysage industriel en constante évolution. »

L'entreprise a rassuré que le développement de Tomb Raider se poursuit et n'a pas été affecté par ces licenciements.

Bien que le communiqué ne cite pas explicitement Perfect Dark, des publications et profils sur les réseaux sociaux de plusieurs personnes concernées indiquent qu'elles étaient affectées à ce projet. Ces réductions d'effectifs semblent être une conséquence retardée de l'annulation, plus tôt cette année, de Perfect Dark par Xbox, un projet que Crystal Dynamics co-développait avec The Initiative. The Initiative a elle-même été fermée lorsque le jeu a été annulé en juillet.
