Finally, over five years after its initial announcement, fans are set to get their first substantial glimpse into IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond game. Originally known as Project 007, the game has now been officially unveiled as 007 First Light, with a full reveal expected sometime this week.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), IO Interactive shared a striking silhouette image of what appears to be James Bond subtly illuminated by a single ray of light. The accompanying text reads “First Light 007” and “Game reveal this week,” along with the hashtag #EarnTheNumber—hinting at the game's narrative focus on Bond earning his iconic 007 designation.
No additional details were provided in the post, but it’s highly probable that 007 First Light will make an appearance during one of the major gaming showcases happening this week, such as those featured in Summer Game Fest or Summer of Gaming—two of the most anticipated events in the early June gaming calendar.
007 First Light was first teased back in 2020 under the codename Project 007, and since then, information about the title has remained scarce. What we do know is that the game is an original James Bond origin story, not based on any existing film. It aims to explore the formative moments of Bond’s career within MI6.
More recently, IO Interactive’s CEO Hakan Abrak expressed hopes that this title would launch a trilogy of Bond games. However, fans of the Hitman series should note that development on new entries in that franchise has been placed on hold while IO Interactive focuses its efforts on delivering this ambitious new project.
In a surprise twist earlier this year, it was also confirmed that 007 First Light will launch not only on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, but also on Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2—marking a significant expansion in reach for the studio’s latest endeavor.
