- Chrono Trigger celebrates a major milestone: its 30th anniversary
- Several related projects are scheduled to be unveiled in the near future
- A special anniversary concert will stream live on YouTube this March 14th
Square Enix has confirmed that Chrono Trigger has now reached its 30-year anniversary. The occasion will be commemorated with a series of initiatives rolling out over the next year. While specifics remain under wraps, the announcement hints that these projects could extend beyond the game itself.
This news has fueled widespread fan speculation, with many having waited years for a comprehensive remaster or a contemporary console release. Despite its reputation as one of the most cherished JRPGs ever made, Chrono Trigger has never seen a full-scale remake or even a re-release on modern PlayStation systems since its PS1 port in 1999.
The game has been available on PC and mobile platforms over time, yet a definitive, polished version for current hardware is still missing. Considering Square Enix's history of revitalizing its classic titles, hope persists. For now, the only confirmed anniversary event is a special livestream concert featuring the game's iconic score. The performance will be broadcast on YouTube on March 14th at 7:00 p.m. PT and continue into the early hours of the following day.
For newcomers, Chrono Trigger is a monumental time-travel RPG developed by an all-star team, including Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest visionary Yuji Horii, and the legendary Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama.

First launched in 1995 for the Super Famicom and SNES, the adventure follows Crono and his allies as they traverse distinct eras—from a prehistoric age ruled by dinosaurs to a bleak future dominated by an alien menace. Throughout the journey, players gather companions, change the course of history, and confront one of gaming's most memorable final bosses.
The 30th anniversary represents a significant landmark. Although no remake or console port has been officially announced, Square Enix's statement leaves the possibility open. Follow the official Chrono Trigger X account for the latest updates on upcoming reveals.
