Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Civilization 7 Focusing on Quality of Life Improvements
Firaxis Games has announced that Civilization 7 (Civ 7) will delay its first in-game event to prioritize essential quality-of-life enhancements. In a development roadmap update shared on February 28, 2025, the team outlined the upcoming changes set for Civ 7's next update.
Scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles (with a separate schedule for Nintendo Switch), Update 1.1.0 was initially set to introduce the game's first in-game event, the Natural Wonder Battle. However, Firaxis Games has decided to postpone this event, stating, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access phase, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, particularly regarding its user interface (UI). Acknowledging these concerns, Firaxis Games has been proactive, noting, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further emphasized, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The forthcoming Update 1.1.0 for Civ 7 will directly address community feedback and suggestions. While the full update notes will be released at launch, Firaxis Games has already given players a glimpse of what to expect.
A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be introduced for free exploration. The most eagerly awaited change involves significant UI adjustments, aimed at resolving the community's concerns. Additionally, the update will bring notable changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and enhance AI leaders' ability to achieve a Cultural Victory.
Alongside these improvements, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be available. As stated in the update, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
The journey of enhancing Civ 7 continues with the next major update scheduled for March 25, 2025, though this date is tentative. This update will continue to focus on refining the game’s UI, as Firaxis Games stresses, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond March, Civ 7 is set to introduce further enhancements, including the "one more turn" feature, allowing players to extend gameplay beyond the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and improvements in multiplayer support.
Firaxis Games shared their commitment, saying, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
