What Is a Cursed Object in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Objects, also known as "Cursed Possessions," are randomly generated items in *Phasmophobia*, appearing on various maps depending on game mode and settings. Activation requires locating and interacting with them within the location.

Unlike the standard equipment in your van, Cursed Objects offer advantageous "cheats" with significant drawbacks. Using their abilities—like instantly pinpointing the ghost's favorite room or boosting your team—always comes at a cost. This could mean a rapid sanity drain, temporary blindness, or a surprise "cursed" hunt. Use them strategically; sometimes, leaving them untouched is the better option. Note that Cursed Objects won't spawn at all difficulty levels or in Challenge Mode.

Currently, *Phasmophobia* features seven Cursed Objects, each with unique abilities and debilitating effects. A common consequence is a substantial sanity reduction for the user. Proximity to the user is risky for teammates, significantly increasing the likelihood of a "cursed hunt."

Cursed Hunts mirror regular hunts but ignore your sanity level, even immediately following a standard hunt. They also last 20 seconds longer, making escape more challenging depending on difficulty.

The following table details each Cursed Object and its mechanics. This list will be updated with future additions.

Cursed ObjectAbility
Tarot Cards10 random cards offering buffs, debuffs, or increased ghost activity. The "Death" card, for example, can trigger a Cursed Hunt.

Music BoxReveals the ghost's location via a special event. Prolonged use triggers a Cursed Hunt.

Best Cursed Objects to Use in Phasmophobia

Choosing the best Cursed Object depends on game mode and difficulty. Some are inherently safer than others.

Haunted Mirror

The Haunted Mirror is the safest, offering significant benefits with minimal risk. It reveals the ghost's favorite room, accelerating evidence gathering. Limit use to avoid sanity loss and triggering a Cursed Hunt.

Ouija Board

A reliable option, the Ouija Board helps pinpoint the ghost's location and, for "Perfect Investigation" bonuses, the bone's location.

Voodoo Doll

Useful for triggering ghost interactions and gathering evidence, but avoid the heart pin to prevent a Cursed Hunt.
