The Blood of Dawnwalker Devs Are Striving For Witcher 3 Levels of Quality

The open-world vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by former CD Projekt Red (CDPR) developers under the new studio Rebel Wolves, is setting ambitious goals. Despite being a smaller team with their debut title, the developers are aiming to match the quality seen in CDPR's acclaimed The Witcher 3, but within a more compact package. Dive deeper into what the team behind The Blood of Dawnwalker envisions for their upcoming game.

In an interview with Games Radar, The Blood of Dawnwalker's creative director, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, emphasized the studio's commitment to achieving a level of quality comparable to that of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3. "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3," he stated. This ambition is remarkable, considering Rebel Wolves is a new studio, albeit one composed of seasoned developers from CDPR who contributed to both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, along with his brother Konrad, founded Rebel Wolves to pursue greater creative freedom in game development, free from the constraints of a larger AAA studio like CDPR. Despite aiming for a smaller scope, the team is determined to deliver a high-quality experience. "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours - we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter," Mateusz explained.

The main campaign of The Blood of Dawnwalker is expected to last between 30 to 40 hours, which, while not as extensive as some AAA titles, still promises a substantial gaming experience. Mateusz questioned the relevance of game length as a defining factor for AAA status, citing examples like Call of Duty, which, despite shorter campaigns, are firmly categorized as AAA titles.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is set in the mystical land of Vale Sangora, where players will embody Coen, a young peasant who gains vampiric powers. His journey is driven by the need to save his ailing sister, navigating through a dark fantasy world filled with challenges and adversaries.

Although no specific release date has been announced, The Blood of Dawnwalker is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal in the Summer of 2025.
