The ghostly whispers that have been haunting Khazan come to life in the Trials of the Frozen Mountain level on Stormpass, manifesting as the formidable Blade Phantom. As its name implies, this boss will push your limits in managing stamina and timing your attacks against its relentless onslaught. This marks your first encounter with a multi-phase boss in the game.

The battle kicks off in a castle with floors awash in crimson liquid. The Blade Phantom typically unleashes these attacks:

  • A six-hit combo consisting of four punches and two kicks, with the second kick being a delayed attack.
  • A three-hit combo with two punches followed by a downward kick.
  • A four-hit combo that starts with a right hook and then two kicks, ending with a leaping kick smash.
  • A three-hit combo with flashing punches, followed by a grab that you must dodge.

Beyond its melee prowess, the Blade Phantom in The First Berserker: Khazan can summon a giant hammer to smash down and create red spikes in front of it. If it opts for the spear, brace yourself for a swift throw followed by a teleporting smash, which you must evade. When wielding a blade, it unleashes a swift six-hit combo. It can also vanish and dash around the battlefield before striking.

Mastering the timing of these attacks to parry or dodge effectively will allow you to counterattack and deplete the Blade Phantom's stamina, setting up opportunities for Brutal Attacks. Continue this strategy until you've reduced its health by about half, triggering the transition to the second phase.

Phase 2

The second phase begins with the Blade Phantom launching four claw attacks, followed by a high-altitude spear throw. Once the spear hits the ground, quickly move away from the impact zone to avoid the subsequent leaping swipe. The boss then unleashes three greatsword slashes and concludes with a hammer smash.

While the Blade Phantom retains many of its original attacks from Phase 1, new moves include a spear thrust and follow-up, as well as four to six swift dual-wielding attacks. It also increases its teleportation frequency. When wielding the greatsword, be prepared for multiple slashes culminating in a Burst Attack, signaled by a red P-like symbol on the screen. To counter this effectively, use the Counterattack (L1/LB + Circle/B), which not only parries the attack but also restores your stamina, leaving the boss vulnerable to further strikes.

Maximize your damage by capitalizing on the Blade Phantom's depleted stamina and timing your Brutal Attacks just before the window closes. This approach will significantly ease your path to victory. Upon defeating the boss, you'll be rewarded with 8,640 Lacrima, some Soul Eater gear items, a Shieldsman’s Ring, and Netherworld Mineral for crafting.
