Defeating and Capturing Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds: A Guide

Authore: ChristianUpdate:May 05,2025

Are you ready to take on the fearsome Quematrice in *Monster Hunter Wilds* but worried about getting roasted and losing your precious meat? Don’t worry, fellow hunter, we've got you covered. Here, we'll delve into the Quematrice's weaknesses, effective strategies, attacks to watch out for, and how to not only defeat but also capture this fiery beast.

How to Beat Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Quematrice, a giant chicken-like creature reminiscent of a Cockatrice, fortunately breathes fire instead of petrifying its victims. As a mid-sized monster, it's vulnerable to most weapons, but its area-of-effect attacks might make ranged weapons more appealing for less confident hunters.

Weaknesses: Water
Resistances: N/A
Immunities: Sonic Bomb

When it comes to its attacks, be wary of the tail strikes and sweeps, particularly the tail slam, which is most dangerous when you're positioned behind it. The Quematrice lifts its tail high before slamming it down, so sidestepping or blocking is key to avoiding damage. However, its fire-based attacks are the real threat, as they not only deal immediate damage but can also set you ablaze, causing ongoing health drain, and even ignite the ground.

These fire attacks have minimal warning signs. One type has the Quematrice rear its head and roar before flinging fire from its tail. Another involves a full sweep after it lifts its head and tail, engulfing the surrounding area in flames. It can also execute this while charging, turning at the last second to unleash fire. For ranged players, retreating as it initiates these moves is your best defense.

How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Quematrice requires preparation. Equip yourself with a Shock Trap and a Pitfall Trap, along with at least two Tranq Bombs. While one trap might suffice, having a backup is crucial in *Monster Hunter* games, especially if the monster escapes or another creature triggers it.

Once the Quematrice is sufficiently weakened and limping, or if you notice the skull icon appearing and disappearing on the mini-map, it's time to set a trap. For simplicity, wait until it retreats to a new area after limping away. Lay your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and then toss two Tranq Bombs to secure your capture.
