If you're aiming for the best ending in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, completing specific tasks is crucial, and saving Sam is one of them. To achieve perfection, it's essential to know where to find Sam and how to rescue him during the main quest "Reckoning."
Rescuing Sam During "Reckoning"
As you near the end of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer's Camp, captured by Brabant. To save him, you have two main approaches: stealth or violence. To infiltrate the camp without arousing suspicion, you'll need a guard's outfit. You can acquire this by either killing a guard and stealing his uniform or by looting one from the numerous chests scattered around the camp. Once you have the outfit equipped, you can freely explore the camp in search of Sam.

Sam is located in the barn on the left side of the camp, past the open area with a cooking fire. Access the barn by using the ladder on its side and dropping down inside, where you'll encounter Brabant. At this juncture, you have crucial decisions to make. You can either kill or spare Brabant; sparing him contributes to achieving the best ending.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escort him out of the camp. He will inform you about von Aulitz, who is also present in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam to extract him from the camp. Sam can safely wait a bit longer, and handling these tasks in this sequence makes the process smoother, especially since you'll need to carry him to the horse.
Von Aulitz can be found in the main part of the camp. Wearing the guard's outfit allows you to enter his location without issue. Upon finding him, you'll see that he's already dying. He requests a dignified death, which is the most honorable choice you can make. Alternatively, you can kill him ruthlessly or leave him to die slowly. Interestingly, leaving him to die contributes to the best ending.
Your final task is to retrieve Sam and a horse. Sam remains in the barn where you left him. If a guard questions your actions, simply say you're moving a body to avoid suspicion. Proceed to the camp gates, exit, and turn right to follow the camp's perimeter.

As you follow the camp's outer edge, you'll reach the stables. Choose a horse, and escape with Sam, advancing one step closer to the culmination of *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's* main quests.
