"Disney Lorcana's Ninth Set: Fabled Launches September 2025 with Goofy Movie Theme"

Authore: MaxUpdate:Jun 18,2025

Disney Lorcana recently unveiled a wave of exciting updates and details about the future of the game, giving fans plenty to look forward to. Among the announcements is the upcoming ninth set—Fabled, scheduled for release on September 5, 2025. This set introduces groundbreaking elements such as the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, along with the highly anticipated arrival of characters from A Goofy Movie.

In addition to Fabled, new insights were shared about the eighth set—Reign of Jafar, set to debut on June 6, a fresh Collection Starter Set was revealed, and exclusive details about the Disney Lorcana World Championship were announced. And just when you thought it couldn’t get better—Darkwing Duck made an appearance in the roadmap too.

There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s dive into everything that’s coming up for Disney Lorcana.

Fabled Introduces Iconic & Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Competitive Play

Although we still have more to learn about Fabled, the sneak peeks shared by the Disney Lorcana team are already building anticipation for its pre-release on August 29 and wide release on September 5.

One of the most significant additions to Fabled will be the inclusion of A Goofy Movie characters, though specific card reveals are still under wraps. However, the team did confirm that Mickey and Minnie will debut as the very first Iconic Cards—a brand-new rarity tier.

These Iconic Cards will be the rarest in the game, with only two appearing per set moving forward. Mickey and Minnie will be featured together on a beautifully illustrated carousel-themed card, making them must-haves for collectors and competitive players alike.

Joining the Iconic tier are Epic Cards, which sit between Legendary and Enchanted in terms of rarity. These cards will feature unique artwork and foil treatments, offering players additional opportunities to obtain special cards like the new Elsa (Snow Queen) variant.

Another major shift in Fabled is the introduction of card rotation in competitive play. For the first time, certain older cards will no longer be legal in the top-level format known as Core Constructed, specifically those from the first four sets of Lorcana.

Fans who love playing with older cards need not worry—there are still multiple ways to enjoy them, especially in the new Infinity Constructed format. Additionally, Fabled will include reprinted cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), all of which will be fully legal in competitive formats.

Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, explained the reasoning behind the rotation:

“To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter. But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to many fans’ deck-building strategies—and that not everyone got the cards they wanted in the first year—we’re reprinting some cards from those first sets in Fabled, including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”

For newcomers or players looking for a curated entry point, the new Collection Starter Set offers a great way to begin your journey.

This set includes:

  • Four Fabled booster packs
  • A Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card
  • A card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor)
  • A collector’s guide

Reign of Jafar Brings Aladdin, Bambi, and a New Co-Op Adventure

The eighth set, Reign of Jafar, will arrive in pre-release on May 30 and hit shelves widely on June 6.

This expansion continues the ongoing narrative surrounding the iconic Disney villain, Jafar, who now wields the powerful Hexwell Crown. According to the official description:

“Jafar now possesses the Hexwell Crown and, with it, he has corrupted Archazia’s Island to his wicked will. Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar, and glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier.”

Alongside Reign of Jafar, players can also experience Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new co-op adventure box designed for four players. In this mode, players work together to take down Jafar and his minions.

New cards arriving in Reign of Jafar include:

  • Bambi (Prince of the Forest)
  • Flower (Shy Skunk)
  • Thumper (Young Bunny)
  • Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana)
  • Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug)
  • Aladdin (Vigilant Guard)
  • And many more

Future Teases: Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck

During the final moments of the presentation, Disney offered a glimpse into what’s next after Fabled. The next set will be titled Whispers in the Well, set to launch in Q4 2025. While few details were shared, concept art teased appearances from Mickey, Ariel, and hints toward the inclusion of Disney Gargoyles in Lorcana.

Additionally, the reveal included a cryptic mention of a new type of Glimmer—something to keep an eye on.

Even farther ahead, the long-awaited return of Darkwing Duck was confirmed—he’ll be joining Disney Lorcana in 2026, much to the delight of longtime fans.
