Since its debut in February 2022, Elden Ring has emerged as a cultural phenomenon, selling over 13 million copies within a month and nearing 29 million total. The game has inspired unique gameplay feats, such as defeating bosses with the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller, and sparked intense speedrunning challenges. Following its success, FromSoftware released the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2023, and the upcoming cooperative spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, has shown promise during early public network tests.

In our comprehensive review, IGN awarded Elden Ring a perfect 10/10, praising it as "a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path." The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC also received a 10/10, lauded for "raising the bar for single-player DLC expansions" by condensing the essence of the base game into a focused 20-25 hour campaign filled with new challenges for dedicated fans.

FromSoftware has yet to announce a specific release date for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, nor has it detailed how this version will differ from previous iterations. For more updates and announcements from today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, click here.
