Sandfall Interactive, the developer behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is planning significant upgrades for the acclaimed RPG. Here's what we know about their upcoming major update and industry reactions.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Post-Launch Plans
Developing a Wide Range of Future Improvements
Sandfall Interactive is currently evaluating multiple enhancement opportunities for Expedition 33. In a June 16 Twitter post, the team confirmed they're assessing various upgrades, including accessibility improvements and fresh content additions.
The studio stated: "We're currently exploring a wide range of future improvements — from accessibility features to new content and all sorts of elements we're actively evaluating." They're also expanding localization beyond the current French and English voice options with additional subtitle languages.
The game's passionate fanbase has consistently requested more content. Lead Writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen previously hinted at potential DLC, stating expansions would depend on player demand - which appears strongly evident.
While Sandfall has confirmed future game development plans, COO François Meurisse noted it's too early for official announcements. Fans have suggested Arabic localization among their requested improvements.
Hideo Kojima Praises Expedition 33's Development Approach
Legendary developer Hideo Kojima commended Expedition 33 during a recent interview, particularly praising its team structure. The Metal Gear creator reflected on evolving development team sizes throughout his career.
"Early in my career, we worked in teams of about six people where you could manage everything personally," Kojima explained. "With larger teams today, you lose that intimate creative control. Expedition 33's 33-member team with their office dog represents my ideal creative environment."
CD Projekt Red Advocates for GOTY Consideration
Industry praise continues for this Belle Époque-inspired RPG. CD Projekt Red's Marcin Momot recently championed its Game of the Year credentials on social media.
"We NEED more games like this," Momot wrote. "Wonderful storytelling from start to finish, compelling characters, innovative gameplay, and phenomenal music. The multiple endings particularly deliver powerful emotional impact - this absolutely deserves GOTY discussion."
While Expedition 33 remains a fan favorite for 2024 awards, this competitive year presents significant challenges. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
