In the latest installment of Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced an exciting development for fans: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to launch on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an enhanced version of the 2020 PS4 game, Final Fantasy VII Remake, which marks the first chapter in a trilogy remaking the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG, Final Fantasy VII. Intergrade, released for the PS5, boasts upgraded graphics and lighting compared to its PS4 counterpart, and includes the Intermission DLC, which focuses on the adventures of the spirited ninja Yuffie in Midgar.

Currently available on PS5 and PC, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is now poised to make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2. Hamaguchi highlighted that the enhanced capabilities of the Switch 2 will allow the team to bring the full experience of Midgar to Nintendo's new handheld platform. "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs," he explained.

The portability of the Switch 2 was a key point of excitement for Hamaguchi. "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work," he said, emphasizing how this feature will facilitate easier sharing and discussion of the game with others.

Moreover, the Switch 2 version will integrate GameChat, a feature that allows players to communicate with friends during gameplay and share their screens in real time. "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," Hamaguchi shared, expressing his enthusiasm for a potential strong collaboration between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 so far, Hamaguchi hinted at future possibilities, stating, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2." This suggests that subsequent entries like Rebirth and the final installment of the trilogy might also find their way to the Switch 2.

The Final Fantasy series, which initially debuted on Nintendo consoles, transitioned to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII in 1997, marking its first foray into 3D gaming. With the remake series, Final Fantasy VII is set to return to Nintendo hardware, bridging a significant gap in its storied history.
