"Should You Free Ilora in Avowed: A Decision Guide"

Authore: AaliyahUpdate:Apr 21,2025

At the beginning of Avowed, you face a crucial decision regarding Ilora, a suspicious prisoner held at Fort Northreach. Your ultimate goal is to use her boat to reach Paradis, but the choice to free or leave Ilora can significantly impact your journey. Here's a detailed look at the consequences of each choice and why you should consider freeing Ilora.

Should You Free or Leave Ilora?

In Avowed, while personal role-playing choices are important, freeing Ilora is highly recommended. This decision not only simplifies the challenges at Fort Northreach but also unlocks a valuable side quest later in the game.

What Happens If You Free Ilora in Avowed?

Freeing Ilora proves to be beneficial in multiple ways. She will assist you in defeating enemies on the island, including the formidable boss, Steadman Ralke. Early in Avowed, your character is relatively weak and lacks high-quality weapons or armor, making Ilora's help invaluable in easing the difficulty of the level.

Moreover, freeing Ilora sets you up for success in a later side quest called "Escape Plan." Without spoiling the details, having Ilora by your side during this quest will make it significantly easier.

How to Free Ilora

To free Ilora, you'll need to retrieve the key to her cell from the Warden's Room. Navigate to the door at the end of the hallway, climb up the crates, and jump across to the other platform. Enter the passageway above and break through the boards on your right to access the Warden's Room. The key is located just beside the door. Use this key to open Ilora's cell and also the adjacent cell to obtain the Deerskin Gloves.

What Happens If You Don’t Free Ilora in Avowed?

Choosing not to free Ilora makes Fort Northreach much more challenging. You'll struggle more during the "Escape Plan" quest later on. Additionally, Ilora won't remain imprisoned; you'll eventually have to confront and fight her, complicating your escape from Fort Northreach. The only upside to this path is the opportunity to loot Ilora's body for additional items, though at the cost of increased difficulty and moral compromise.

In summary, freeing Ilora in Avowed is the optimal choice for easing gameplay challenges and unlocking future opportunities. Avowed is available now, so make your decision wisely and enjoy the adventure ahead.
