Frostpunk 1886 Announcement Reveal
Original Frostpunk Remade Using The Unreal Engine
In an exciting twist, 11 bit Studios, the creators of Frostpunk, announced a new addition to the series on April 24 via a Twitter (X) post. Frostpunk 1886 is a remake of the beloved original, now powered by the Unreal Engine.
The announcement promises a completely new Purpose Path, long-awaited mod support, and much more, all while honoring the legacy of the original game. A detailed Steam post on the same day provided further insight into the project's objectives.
Moving away from their proprietary Liquid Engine used in the first game, 11 bit Studios embraced the Unreal Engine 5 for Frostpunk 2. This experience inspired them to revisit the original Frostpunk and enhance it with Unreal's advanced capabilities. "Our goal is to expand upon it with improved visuals, higher resolution, and all the other possibilities Unreal has to offer," the studio explained.

Currently in development, Frostpunk 1886 is slated for a 2027 release. The team at 11 bit Studios is dedicated to crafting an experience that welcomes newcomers to the Frostpunk universe while also captivating dedicated fans with a game they'll want to play repeatedly.
