The release date for Gears of War: Reloaded has been set, and fans are thrilled to learn that it will launch on PS5 simultaneously with Xbox. This article delves into the details of its multiplatform release and outlines the enhancements fans can look forward to in this eagerly awaited game.
Gears of War: Reloaded Release Date Announced
Multiplatform Release
Gears of War has been a stalwart Xbox exclusive, renowned as one of the flagship franchises for Microsoft's console. However, in an exciting shift, Xbox revealed via a Twitter (X) post on May 6 that Gears of War: Reloaded will be available across all platforms on August 26, including the PS5.
This move aligns with Xbox's ongoing strategy to make their exclusive titles accessible on multiple platforms. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, in a January interview with GamerTag Radio, underscored this approach, saying, "We love our platform and our hardware but we're not going to put walls up where people can engage with the great games our studios are building."
This strategy hints that the forthcoming Gears of War: E-Day might also follow suit, potentially launching on all platforms simultaneously with PS5. While Xbox has not yet confirmed these plans, the gaming community remains eager to see if other Xbox exclusives will follow this trend.
Faithful Remaster and Natively Optimized
The announcement of Gears of War: Reloaded came as a surprise, given the original game was already remastered in 2015 with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. In a May 5 Xbox Wire post, Mike Crump, Studio Head at The Coalition, elaborated on what players can expect from this new release.
"As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever," Crump stated.
Gears of War: Reloaded offers significant performance enhancements over its 2015 predecessor. While the Ultimate Edition ran at 1080p and 30fps in campaign mode and 60fps in multiplayer, Reloaded will boast 4k resolution at 60fps in campaign mode and an impressive 120fps in multiplayer. The game features 4k assets, remastered textures, enhanced post-processing visual effects, improved shadows and reflections, among other upgrades.
The Xbox Wire post also assured that "Players will gain immediate access to all post-launch downloadable content at no additional cost — this includes the bonus Campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full roster of classic characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression."
Additionally, those who own The Ultimate Edition prior to the announcement will receive a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded. Eligible Xbox accounts will receive a code for the upgrade before the game's launch via direct message.
Gears of War: Reloaded is scheduled to launch on August 26, priced at $39.99 across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will be available on day one for subscribers of Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
