GTA 6 Trailer 2: PS5, Xbox Release Dates Confirmed, PC Omitted

With the release of the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 and a significant update to its official website, fans were eager to learn more about the launch platforms for the new release date set for May 26, 2026. At the conclusion of the trailer, the release date was displayed alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S logos, confirming that these consoles will be part of GTA 6's initial launch. Notably, Trailer 2 was specifically captured on a PS5, as indicated within the trailer itself.

This announcement has left many wondering about the future of GTA 6 on other platforms, particularly PC and the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. Some had hoped that the delay to May 2026 might prompt Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two, to consider a simultaneous release on PC. However, the absence of any mention of a PC version in the trailer suggests that Rockstar may adhere to its traditional release strategy. This approach, while consistent with the developer's past practices, seems increasingly outdated in today's gaming landscape, where the PC market plays a crucial role in the success of multiplatform titles.

During an interview with IGN in February, Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, hinted at GTA 6's eventual release on PC. He referenced the simultaneous launch of Firaxis' Civilization 7 across multiple platforms, including PC, but noted that Rockstar typically opts for a staggered release schedule. This aligns with Rockstar's historical reluctance to launch games on PC at the same time as console versions, as well as its complex relationship with the PC modding community. Despite this, the significant sales potential of PC releases, which Zelnick mentioned can account for up to 40% of a game's total sales, raises questions about whether delaying GTA 6's PC launch is a strategic misstep.

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, there was no mention or logo in GTA 6 Trailer 2. While details about the capabilities of the Switch 2 remain undisclosed, its confirmed ability to run demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 has fueled speculation that GTA 6 might also be compatible. However, given that GTA 6 is planned for the less powerful Xbox Series S, the possibility of a Switch 2 release remains uncertain.

In December 2023, a former Rockstar developer attempted to explain the rationale behind the delayed PC release of GTA 6, urging PC gamers to be patient and give the studio the "benefit of the doubt." As fans continue to speculate about the PC release timeline—potentially in late 2026, early 2027, or even later—the question remains whether Rockstar will reconsider its approach for what could be one of the biggest game launches in history.

Zelnick also emphasized the growing importance of the PC market, stating, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue. Of course, there will be a new console generation." This acknowledgment of the PC market's significance underscores the potential impact of delaying GTA 6's PC release.
