Hollow Knight: Silksong Set for Pre-Holiday Release

The developer behind Hollow Knight: Silksong has clarified the game's brief appearance during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase 2025, where it was featured alongside the upcoming ROG Ally X handheld.

During the event, Xbox president Sarah Bond mentioned Silksong would be "available at launch and on Game Pass when Ally releases later this year"—prompting speculation that the game might debut as a launch title for the new hardware slated for Holiday 2025.

However, Team Cherry has since clarified this isn't accurate.

Speaking on the game's official Discord (as seen by IGN), Team Cherry's marketing manager Matthew 'Leth' Griffin confirmed Silksong isn't waiting for the ROG Ally X release and will arrive before the holiday season.

"I confirmed BEFORE Holiday," Griffin stated, emphasizing, "we are not tied to a console release."

To avoid confusion, Griffin later specified, "Christmas yes," when asked which holiday he referenced.

With Silksong playable in September at Melbourne's Australian Centre for the Moving Image (starting September 18), could an earlier launch be possible?

Fans expected clearer release date details from the Xbox showcase, especially after recent Steam store updates hinted at an imminent launch or surprise release.

While Xbox reserved its surprise drop for Final Fantasy 16's late arrival, Silksong's release timeline remains uncertain—though Christmas is now just six months away.

For those planning to play Silksong on the ROG Ally X, IGN has already tested the handheld ahead of its release.
