IGN can reveal that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at an Australian museum starting in September 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has been eagerly awaited by fans worldwide and has consistently topped the Steam wishlist chart. Although Team Cherry has only provided a vague 2025 release window, the game will be accessible to visitors at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, from September 18.
Silksong will be featured in a video game exhibition called Game Worlds at the Melbourne museum, which will also showcase the game's design and artistic direction. This exhibition will provide a deep dive into the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s movements and attacks, as well as the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement about featuring Silksong at the Game Worlds exhibition, stating: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"
As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, which is one of several design elements from the game that will be on display in the Game Worlds exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.
With Silksong set to be playable at ACMI from September 18, fans are hopeful that the game's full release might occur before then, possibly in August. The anticipation continues to build, especially after Silksong made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, where it confirmed the 2025 release window with a brief glimpse of new gameplay.
Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, Silksong has since expanded to include versions for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Over the years, Team Cherry has engaged fans with various teases, including a mysterious chocolate cake recipe at the start of 2025, sparking hopes for a re-reveal in April.
