If there’s one thing you can count on with a Nintendo console, it’s the presence of The Legend of Zelda. The Nintendo Switch 2 has kept that tradition alive, but with a twist we didn’t quite anticipate. During the latest Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that Koei Tecmo is developing a new Hyrule Warriors game—a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. And fans won’t have to wait long; it’s set to release this winter.
*Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment* returns to its roots, focusing on the characters introduced in the ancient history segments of *Tears of the Kingdom*. Players will step into the shoes of iconic figures like Zelda herself, alongside Rauru, Sonia, and others who hold the Secret Stones. The narrative dives into what Zelda was up to during the events of *Tears of the Kingdom*, following her journey after traveling back in time. Alongside Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, she unites to combat Ganondorf and his forces.Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 – Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
Four stunning images!
The trailer offered a tantalizing glimpse of the champions’ abilities, showcasing Mineru commanding her mech, Zelda wielding her magical prowess, Rauru with his distinctive sword-spear hybrid, and brief appearances of the other Sacred Stone bearers.
This marks the third entry in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, both of which served as prequels to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity stood out for its fresh take on familiar events, and it received a glowing 9/10 review from us, praised as “a joy to play and discover” and “a blast from start to finish.”
