The announcement of Neil Druckmann's latest game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, has stirred a whirlwind of emotions among fans, and only recently have we been treated to the first details about its setting. Druckmann unveiled this information during his appearance on the Creator to Creator show.
Set in an alternate future that branches off from our reality in the late '80s, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet introduces a compelling narrative. The story revolves around a new religion that emerges and eventually dominates the Intergalactic universe. Naughty Dog dedicated several years to meticulously crafting the lore of this religion, from its inception with the first prophet to its subsequent evolution and distortions.
This religion originates on a solitary planet and spreads until it becomes entirely isolated from the rest of the galaxy. The game's protagonist experiences a dramatic crash-landing on this very planet. Upon awakening, she finds herself utterly alone in a desolate environment, setting the stage for one of the project's central themes: survival in isolation. Druckmann noted that, unlike previous Naughty Dog titles which often included a companion for interaction, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet challenges the player to navigate and survive this alien world without any guidance—solo survival is key if escape is to be achieved.
Despite being in development for four years, there has been no hint of a release date yet. Fans will have to stay tuned for future announcements to learn more about when they can dive into this intriguing new universe crafted by Neil Druckmann and the Naughty Dog team.
