Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Project Collapses Unexpectedly

Popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared some disappointing news with his audience. In a video titled “A Bad Month,” he revealed that he spent an entire year working on an animated adaptation of the survival horror game *Soma*—only for the project to fall through. The cancellation left him feeling deeply frustrated and emotionally affected.

For those unfamiliar, *Soma* is a critically acclaimed science fiction horror title developed by Frictional Games, the creators behind the *Amnesia* series. Released in 2015, the game quickly gained praise for its immersive storytelling and psychological themes. Jacksepticeye has long been a fan of the game, having streamed it extensively upon release and often referring to it as one of his all-time favorites.

In his latest video, Jacksepticeye opened up about a challenging creative period marked by stalled and canceled projects. He explained how he had invested significant time and energy into developing a *Soma*-inspired animated series, even spending over a year in discussions with the developers. At one point, the project was set to move into full production, which thrilled him.

“I was planning to do a *Soma* animated show. Because I love *Soma* — it’s top five, maybe even top ten games of all time for me,” Jacksepticeye said. “We’d been talking to the developers for like a year… and we were ready to go into full production. And then it all just fell apart out of nowhere.”

While he did not disclose specific details or names, Jacksepticeye mentioned that the collapse stemmed from a decision by another party who wanted to take the project “in a different direction.” He admitted this outcome upset him greatly, especially since he had built much of his 2025 content plans around the show.

“I had planned a lot of my year around it,” he said. “Now what is the priority? What am I doing? I don’t know. It’s been a tough month. I took time off and did all that and I have nothing at the end of it. It’s so frustrating.”

The cancellation not only disrupted his creative roadmap but also led to weeks of difficult conversations and reevaluations. Despite the setback, Jacksepticeye remains hopeful about future endeavors, though he admits the experience has been emotionally draining.

Frictional Games, the studio behind *Soma*, most recently released *Amnesia: The Bunker* in 2023. In July of that year, creative director Thomas Grip stated the company was shifting focus away from traditional horror to explore broader emotional experiences in gameplay. IGN reached out to Frictional for comment regarding the canceled animated project but has yet to receive a response.
