Star Wars icon Mark Hamill faced a memorable wardrobe malfunction at the 2025 BAFTAs — and in a surprising twist, Demi Moore gave him a thumbs-up from the audience during the mishap. The incident occurred as Hamill was presenting the Best Film award for *Conclave*, and he later described the experience on *The Late Show With Stephen Colbert* as “the ultimate actor's nightmare.”
Hamill explained that his trousers had already been a concern before the event. “I tried those pants on twice — once at home in California, and my stylist asked how they felt. I said, ‘Fine, a little snug, but they’ll do — maybe you could let them out a skosh,’” he recalled while promoting Mike Flanagan’s new film, *The Life of Chuck.*
However, things took an unexpected turn once he was in London. “Cut to us in London, with the car outside, 20 minutes before we were supposed to leave. I put the pants on — and he let them out four or five inches!” he joked. Luckily, their dresser Mary came to the rescue with a safety pin, securing the back just in time.
But as fate would have it, the fix didn’t last. As Hamill walked toward the podium, he felt the pin pop loose. “Every step I took, they slipped lower and lower,” he said. “They were at my knees by the time I got to the podium!”
In search of reassurance, Hamill scanned the crowd for his wife — only to lock eyes with Demi Moore. He mouthed, “Did you see my pants fall down?” Her response? A warm, supportive thumbs up and smile.
Ever the professional, Hamill remained composed. “I willed myself like hypnosis, trying to beam into the audience, ‘You did not see my pants fall down — it’s all an illusion,’” he joked. Sticking strictly to the teleprompter, he avoided any jokes or acknowledgment of the situation to keep attention away from the slip-up.

Later, the BAFTAs director informed him that the front of the podium blocked most of the audience’s view — though those seated to the sides definitely saw the pants around his knees. Looking relaxed on Colbert’s stage, Hamill quipped, “Believe me, my pants are very secure tonight.”
On a final note, Hamill confirmed that fans shouldn’t expect to see him return as Luke Skywalker in any future Star Wars projects. He stated that it’s time for the franchise to move beyond legacy characters and focus on fresh stories and new faces.
